Atlanta United striker Giorgos Giakoumakis has admitted that he is aiming to win the MLS Golden Boot award this season.
Speaking to 90min, the Greek international revealed that he is chasing the prestigious accolade this year with Giakoumakis currently three goals off league-leader Hany Mukhtar, who currently stands on 13 for the season.
With Atlanta in the playoff picture and still having plenty of games to go, there’s a real chance that Giakoumakis can be a contender for the MLS Golden Boot, and the attacker is determined to win it.

Giakoumakis said when asked if he is keen on winning the MLS Golden Boot and what his other personal goals for the season are: “That’s one of my targets. That’s one of my goals.
“But I’m trying to face every game individually, like go week by week and score as many goals as I can, first of all, for my team to help them finish as high as possible in the table and then do something very good in the playoffs.
“So, I know for a fact that if you keep scoring, first of all, it helps your team and then eventually probably the amount, of course, is going to be really critical to winning [the Golden Boot].”
Giakoumakis can win the MLS Golden Boot for Atlanta

Giakoumakis has only played in MLS for a few months, yet the former Celtic star has already been quite the signing for Atlanta, with the striker filling the void left by Josef Martinez during his peak years in Georgia.
And the Greek international’s personal goal to win the Golden Boot will be a massive boost for supporters, with Giakoumakis seemingly intent on shattering records with Atlanta during his career.
Indeed, it will take some effort from Giakoumakis to keep up with the pace of Mukhtar and now Lionel Messi, but the 28-year-old goalscorer is a natural, and could surprise some neutrals in the weeks to come.
