Atlanta United have reportedly made an offer to sign former Maccabi Haifa goalkeeper Josh Cohen, who is now a free agent.

According to the Athletic, the Five Stripes have an offer on the table for the 31-year-old Mountain View, California shot-stopper, who last season played in the UEFA Champions League.

As per the report, though, the New England Revolution are also interested in Cohen, with Djordje Petrovic closing in on a move to Premier League side Chelsea.

Despite interest from the Revs, Atlanta seem well-positioned to sign Cohen, with the Georgia franchise currently holding the keeper’s discovery rights, giving them priority in a deal for the keeper.

A former USL star for the likes of Phoenix Rising and Sacramento Republic, Cohen earned international praise last year for his performances for Maccabi Haifa in the Champions League.

Yet one year on, the keeper could now be heading back home with Atlanta, who could be a perfect next move for Cohen at this stage in his career.

Brad Guzan has arguably needed upgrading for quite some time in Atlanta’s squad, and Cohen would provide that and then some for the Five Stripes.

The 31-year-old is reaching the peak of his career and in the last 12 months has shown that he is capable of playing at the highest level possible in soccer.

And Atlanta could be the perfect next step for Cohen’s career, with MLS now a division that could put the California-born talent in contention for a USMNT call-up ahead of 2026.
