Atlanta United have reportedly rejected a €10m ($11m) transfer offer from La Liga side Almeria for Thiago Almada.

According to Argentine journalist Gaston Edul, the Five Stripes have shot down a bid from the European club for the 22-year-old playmaker, with Almeria offering $10m plus 50% of any potential future transfer for Almada.

Almada has stood out as Atlanta’s best player in the last two seasons since making the move from Argentina to MLS, with the youngster expected to make a move to Europe in 2024.

However, an offer of $10m is simply too low for a player of Almada’s quality, with many Atlanta fans and pundits tipping the Argentine international to leave for a MLS record transfer.

Although Almeria are set to come back in for Almada, the La Liga side are unlikely to match anything Atlanta are looking for in the playmaker, who could also not be sold on a move to the Spanish minnows.

Almada has all the makings to become a world-class player and a player who will be another shining endorsement for MLS, with the playmaker set for big things in the years to come.

As a result, the 22-year-old will be better off waiting until January to leave Atlanta, where offers will both be more lucrative for the Five Stripes as well as the youngster himself.

Whilst moving to La Liga would be a good move, there’s no denying that Almeria are no real step up from where Almada currently is with Atlanta, with a bigger club more than likely to bid for the playmaker in January.
